Aside from the insightful messages most of us have received viewing the mystic movie, “The Secret” I’ve since discovered The Existence of an Additional 11 Forgotten Laws that have since transformed my life into something that has started making far more sense than ever before.

As people now turn towards their realities of poverty, and loss of income. I find myself turning in the opposite direction, faced with unlimited prosperity and an opportunity that I’ve been dreaming of for all of my professional life. But, how you may be wondering can this be, in the face of this mass illusion of lack seen all around me each day?

Goethe And now, I would like to discuss one of my favorite inspirational writers that ever lived, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.

Goethe, a German writer who lived from 1749 to 1832 wrote works that span the fields of poetry, drama, literature, theology, humanism, and science. His peak of world literature is the two-part drama, Faust. But other well-known literary works include his many numerous and thought inspiring poems.

I will share one that I keep taped to my desktop screen at the office. I read it often, especially when needing to reminding myself of just how beautiful we make this world when we recognize & honor the powers with which we’ve been endowed through divine birthright.

“I have come to the frightening conclusion
that I am the decisive element.
It is my personal approach that creates the climate.
It is my daily mood that makes the weather.
I possess tremendous power to make life miserable or joyous.
I can be a tool of torture or an instrument of inspiration.
I can humiliate, or humor, hurt or heal.
In all situations, it is my response that decides whether a crisis is escalated or deescalated, and a person is humanized or dehumanized.
If we treat people as they are, we make them worse.
If we treat people as they ought to be, we help them become what they are capable of becoming.”

Goethe was one of the key figures of German literature and the movement of Weimar Classicism in the late 18th and early 19th centuries; this movement coincides with Enlightenment, Sentimentality and Romanticism. As a scientific writer, he authored the scientific text Theory of Colours, and influenced Darwin with his focus on plant morphology.

Goethe is the originator of the concept of Weltliteratur (“world literature”) having taken great interest in the literatures of England, France, Italy, classical Greece, Persia and Arabic literature, amongst others. His influence on German philosophy is virtually immeasurable. His influences further spread across Europe, and for the next century his works were a major source of inspiration in music, drama, poetry and philosophy. He is considered by many to be the most important writer in the German language and one of the most important thinkers in Western culture as well.

I often reflect upon this favorite little poem of mine and am both humbled & spiritually nourished knowing that we remain, and have always been linked to one another through forces just beyond our waking mind’s grasp.

Meditate upon Goethe’s remarkably intuitive description of the subliminal powers of our human condition and pray that we be continually blessed with ‘Goethes’ that so deeply reach within themselves to deliver messages that elevate humanity to its fullest potential.
